Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara Review: A Brilliant 5-Star Stay with Accor Platinum Perks
When we decided to base ourselves in Kuala Lumpur for a proper staycation, Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara was an easy choice — and not just because we hold Accor ALL Platinum membership. As one of Accor’s flagship Sofitel properties in Malaysia, this hotel promises French elegance fused with local Malaysian culture, positioned in the prestigious Damansara Heights neighbourhood. But does it deliver in practice, especially for a family of four?

We booked a Junior Suite, checked in early, received an upgrade to a Prestige Suite, and spent our stay making full use of the pool, gym, and breakfast restaurant. Here’s the full, honest picture.
Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara: Location & First Impressions
Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara is located in the prestigious Damansara Heights enclave — known as the “Beverly Hills of KL” — and sits just 5 minutes’ walk from Pusat Bandar Damansara MRT station, offering easy connectivity to the broader city.
The hotel building is directly connected to Damansara City (DC) Mall, which is a genuine convenience for dining, groceries, and casual browsing without going outside. That said, the location works best if your priority is a relaxed, resort-style stay rather than sightseeing from your doorstep. Petronas Twin Towers is approximately 3.7 miles from the property, and Mid Valley Megamall is within a 10-minute drive. For tourists on a tight sightseeing itinerary, the distance from central KL can feel like a limitation — but for families seeking a comfortable, unhurried base, it’s ideal.
One quirk worth noting: unlike most hotels where the main entrance is front and centre, Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara’s entrance is positioned at the far right of the building. Easy to find once you know, but worth a heads-up if you’re arriving by car or Grab for the first time.

Check-In & Accor ALL Platinum Upgrade Experience
Standard check-in at Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara is at 3:00 PM, with checkout at noon. As Accor ALL Platinum members, we were able to request early check-in and were accommodated from around 12:30 PM — a meaningful perk when travelling with children.
The more welcome surprise came with a room upgrade. We had booked a Junior Suite, but were upgraded to a Prestige Suite. As an ALL Platinum member, a one-category room upgrade is a standard benefit at participating Sofitel properties, subject to availability. The key difference between the two room types is a partial dividing wall in the Prestige Suite that separates the bedroom and living area — creating two more distinct, independent spaces when the sliding doors are closed. For a family of four, that separation makes a noticeable difference to how the room feels and functions.
We were also placed on a high floor, which added to the sense of space and light — even if the city views from the bedroom side were more open than scenic.
Shortly after check-in, welcome amenities arrived: a small plate of macarons and chocolates — a nice touch that set the tone for the stay.

The Prestige Suite: Room & Amenities
Living Room & Bedroom
The Prestige Suite is well-proportioned and thoughtfully designed. The living room sits to one side of the dividing wall, furnished with a sofa and tea table stocked with capsule coffee and Dilmah tea. The bedroom on the other side is spacious, with crisp, high-quality bedding, a compact writing desk, and a small couch by the window.

The flooring is carpeted throughout — a personal preference note for those who prefer hard floors — but otherwise the room was extremely comfortable. Both sides of the dividing wall have sliding doors, so the suite can function as a single open space or be divided into two separate rooms as needed.

Bathroom
The bathroom is generously sized, clean, and well-appointed. In-room toiletries are by Lancôme — a step up from the standard hotel amenities you’d find at lower-tier properties, and a detail that contributes to the overall Sofitel feel. A bathtub is positioned along one wall with bath salts and body products arranged above it.

Practical In-Room Details
A multi-socket power strip is built into a small side table beside the main desk — easy to miss, but very useful. The wardrobe is well set up with plenty of hanging space, a safe, and the usual hotel essentials. Room service is available around the clock.
Pool, Gym & Facilities
Swimming Pool
The pool is one of the highlights of Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara, and it’s easy to see why. The outdoor pool is surrounded by sunloungers and features a poolside bar — Nizza — that brings tapas, salads, desserts, and drinks directly to guests relaxing at the water’s edge.

What made it particularly enjoyable for our children were the colourful floating beanbags available in the pool — large enough to climb onto and float around on, which kept them thoroughly entertained. A spa jet section at one end adds an extra layer of relaxation for adults. The pool area has a resort-like feel that’s somewhat unexpected in the middle of a city business district.

As Accor ALL Platinum members, welcome drinks were redeemable at the poolside bar — a small but appreciated perk. Pool operating hours are 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
Fitness Centre
Sofitel FITNESS is a 24-hour fitness centre equipped with Technogym cardio and weight machines. Well maintained, with enough equipment to cover a solid workout. A qualified personal trainer is available for guests who want guided sessions.

Kwee Zeen: Breakfast at Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara
Breakfast is served at Kwee Zeen, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant, located half a level above the lobby via a staircase beside the front desk. The restaurant isn’t visible from outside, which means many guests only discover it properly at their first breakfast — but it’s worth the slight detour.

The breakfast buffet covers a wide range: international options alongside local Malaysian staples, fresh fruit, egg stations, pastries, and hot dishes. One of the more memorable moments was spotting whole dragon fruits in the fruit display — guests simply pick one up and peel it themselves. It’s a charming, unpretentious touch that hints at the hotel’s commitment to fresh, quality produce rather than pre-cut, pre-packaged portions.

Breakfast is available from 6:00 AM to 10:30 AM daily. For guests with Accor ALL Platinum status or packages that include breakfast, children’s breakfast was complimentary during our stay — a meaningful saving for families.

Is Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara Worth It? An Honest Take
For a pure staycation — especially as a family — Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara delivers well. The pool is genuinely enjoyable, the suite is comfortable and spacious enough for four people, the breakfast is solid, and the Accor ALL Platinum benefits added meaningful value: early check-in, room upgrade, and welcome drinks that would otherwise cost extra.
The location is the one honest caveat. If your goal is to see Kuala Lumpur — KLCC, Batu Caves, Petaling Street, Merdeka Square — you’ll need to factor in Grab rides each time. The hotel isn’t walking distance from those attractions. For sightseeing-focused trips, it may make more sense to combine a night or two here with a more centrally located property.
But if you’re looking to genuinely recharge — with good food, a beautiful pool, and the kind of service that a Sofitel is known for — this property earns its 5-star rating. We booked early, secured a reasonable rate, received an upgrade, and had the children’s breakfast included. On that basis, it was excellent value for what we experienced.
