If you’re searching for a Penang beach resort that genuinely delivers on both family comfort and luxury, Angsana Teluk Bahang deserves a serious look. The first Angsana-branded property in Malaysia, this beachfront resort overlooks the Andaman Sea and offers 228 sea-view rooms and suites — some with private plunge pools — all showcasing Peranakan-inspired design by Omar Khan. We stayed here as a family of four, and this is our honest account of what it’s really like.

Location: Peaceful, But Plan Ahead

Angsana Teluk Bahang sits at the quieter northern tip of Penang Island, one bay beyond the more familiar Batu Ferringhi. The tranquillity and beauty of the Teluk Bahang area is what sets it apart — it’s a chance to rest and relax, yet close enough to Batu Ferringhi where you can explore the nightly markets and various cafés.

There are no shops or eateries immediately near the hotel. The nearest options are roughly a 15-minute drive away at Batu Ferringhi. If you’re planning a sightseeing-first trip to George Town’s UNESCO heritage streets, this resort is better suited as a restorative base at the end of your Penang itinerary rather than the beginning.

That said, the hotel has a practical solution.

Free Shuttle Service to George Town & Batu Ferringhi

Angsana Teluk Bahang offers a complimentary shuttle service to George Town and Batu Ferringhi. The George Town route covers UNESCO-listed streets with colourful murals, heritage gems, and street food. The Batu Ferringhi route connects guests to beachside cafés, water sports, and the bustling night market. Shuttle bookings are made through the Front Desk.

Angsana Teluk Bahang Rooms: Every Single One Has a Sea View

This is one of the resort’s most distinctive selling points. Every room at Angsana Teluk Bahang has a sea view, regardless of room size or price — a smart design decision that means no matter your budget, you still get to enjoy what you came to this beachside resort for.

We stayed in a Premier Sea View King Room on the 10th floor. Opening the blackout curtains in the morning to a full sweep of the Andaman Sea is, frankly, one of those travel moments that stays with you. The room itself was well-appointed — a comfortable king bed, a sofa with a side table, and a multi-plug socket that accommodates various international plug types including the flat two-pin common in Korea and Malaysia.

The Bathroom

The bathroom is spacious, with two separate vanity sinks, a freestanding bathtub, and a separate shower enclosure. The wardrobe includes robes that are designed more as beach cover-ups than standard shower robes — and you’ll see why when you spot guests wearing them directly over their swimwear on the way to the pool.

Room Upgrade Options

For those seeking more space, the Pool Suites come with separate living and sleeping areas, a private balcony, and a plunge pool overlooking the ocean. The Angsana Two-Bedroom Sky Garden Seaview Suite adds a rooftop terrace with a private Jacuzzi and panoramic views of the sea.

Facilities: Built for Families and Leisure Travellers

Infinity Pool (Main Pool)

Operating Hours: 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM

The infinity pool is consistently cited as one of Penang’s most beautiful hotel pools. The infinity pool is excellent for laps and overlooks the Andaman Sea. With colorful parasols dotting the terrace below and the ocean stretching to the horizon, it’s the kind of pool you return to throughout the day. A ping-pong table sits alongside the main pool area — our older child ended up playing a spontaneous game with another guest’s child, which is the kind of casual magic that happens at well-designed resorts.

Kids’ Pool & Kids’ Club

Operating Hours: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM

The family pool area is entirely separate from the adult infinity pool, which parents will appreciate. The hotel features a free water park and a free kids’ club. There’s a water slide and a dedicated toddler-friendly shallow pool. The Kids’ Club is located directly adjacent to the family pool, giving younger children the option of cool, shaded indoor play when the afternoon sun gets intense.

On weekends, the resort runs activities around the kids’ pool — the bubble show we attended was simpler than expected, but the children were delighted regardless. Small, consistent programming like this adds up to a genuinely child-friendly environment.

Fitness Centre

The gym is well-equipped, and behind it you’ll find shower facilities and changing rooms. On weekends, a sunrise yoga session runs at 7:00 AM — worth noting if you like starting the day that way. The building’s wave-inspired architectural profile is most visible from this side of the property.

Spa

The spa offers deep-tissue massages, body wraps, and facials. We didn’t visit the spa on this trip, but reviews consistently highlight it as a strong offering.

Dining at Angsana Teluk Bahang

The resort operates three dining venues, which matters given the limited food options outside the property.

Jendela – All-Day Dining

Jendela is the resort’s all-day dining restaurant, with a terrace overlooking the pool. The Peranakan set lunch is reasonably priced and a great introduction to the island’s most celebrated flavours.

No. 11 – Specialty Restaurant

No. 11 is the more intimate specialty restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner. Multiple reviews single it out as the dining highlight of a stay here.

Fire & Ice – Beachfront Bar & Restaurant

Fire & Ice is Angsana Teluk Bahang’s signature beachfront bar and restaurant, where handcrafted cocktails meet tropical relaxation. Guests can sip on cocktails and enjoy beachside bites while taking in sunset views over the Andaman Sea.

If you’re an Accor ALL member, you’ll receive a welcome drink credit upon arrival — we used ours on fresh coconut water, watermelon juice, mojitos, and a glass of wine at Fire & Ice, and it was a lovely way to spend the early evening.

Tip: Request fresh lime in your cocktails rather than a premix — the bar team will accommodate this.

The Saturday Night Fire Show: The Weekend Highlight

Venue: Teluk Bahang Beach (in front of Fire & Ice) Time: Every Saturday, 8:45 PM

If you’re visiting on a Saturday, do not miss this. We went in with low expectations — having been mildly underwhelmed by the afternoon bubble show — and came out genuinely impressed. The fire performance on the hotel’s private beach stretch is a full, professional show set against the open sea. Arrive a little early if you want a front-row spot, as those seats fill up quickly.

After the show, the walk back through the resort offers one of those unexpectedly beautiful moments: the night sky above Teluk Bahang, far from city light pollution, is dense with stars. We stood outside longer than we planned to.

What Angsana Teluk Bahang Does Best

  • Every room faces the sea, no exceptions
  • Strong family infrastructure (kids’ pool, kids’ club, weekend activities)
  • Nine wins at the 2025 World Luxury Awards, including Best Luxury Family Beach Resort in Malaysia and Best Gourmet Cuisine in Asia
  • In-house dining prices are reasonable, reducing the pressure of the remote location
  • Saturday fire show is a genuinely memorable evening experience
  • Accor ALL points eligible

Honest Limitations

  • The location is isolated. Even with a rental car, travelling to central Penang involves traffic and winding coastal roads. This resort works best as a dedicated leisure stay, not a sightseeing hub.
  • No walkable shops or restaurants nearby
  • Some guests note that food and drink prices within the resort can be on the higher side — though by five-star beach resort standards, the pricing is broadly competitive

Who Should Stay at Angsana Teluk Bahang?

This resort is an excellent fit for:

  • Families wanting a structured, child-friendly beach holiday
  • Couples after a quiet coastal retreat with quality dining and spa access
  • Accor ALL members who want to earn and redeem points in a genuinely premium setting
  • Travellers visiting Penang who want to combine one or two sightseeing days in George Town with proper beach downtime

It is less suited to travellers whose primary goal is exploring Penang’s street food scene and heritage quarter on foot.
